Stanislaw Moniuszko’s opera Halka will be performed in Finland in August and Comic Opera Helsinki will launch a project for Finnish Opera Export

Stanislaw Moniuszko’s opera Halka will be performed in Kulttuuritalo in August 2018. For the production Comic Opera will co-operate with the polish orchestra and choir Capella Cracoviensis. After the performances in Helsinki, the production will tour in Poland. This co-production will continue the succesfull line of international co-operations that Comic Opera started in the spring 2017.

Halka will be directed by the CEO and artistic director of Comic Opera Helsinki, Laura Åkerlund and conducted by Jan Tomasz Adamus who is the artistic director of Capella Cracoviensis. Capella Cracoviensis is a 50-piece orchestra, that was founded 1970 and is famous for using periodic instruments.

The main roles will be sung by mezzosoprano Natalia Kawałek from Theater an der Wien, soprano Małgorzata Rodek, tenor Jakub Pawlik ja baritone Sebastian Szumski. Finnish artists will be in charge of the set design, visualization as well as costume design. 2018 is also a jubilee year for the production as it was first performed 170 years ago.

Halka is part of Opera Export Finland project launched by Comic Opera Helsinki

Halka is part of the Opera Export project that Comic Opera Helsinki has launched. The idea of the program is to export Finnish knowledge and know-how of opera abroad as well as promote Finnish opera singers and other artists related to opera.
